Click on the title above and you’ll find a video story that has gone viral on-line because it is one of those “feel-good” stories that are absent from sports these days. The coach of the winning team has a player who is a faithful, committed basketball follower, but developmentally disabled and not able to play with kids his own age. The story goes that the coach planned to put this young man into the last game of the season, to give him a big thrill by having him score a basket in a real game.
As happens in life, things do not always go as planned. The coach had the players on his team pass the ball three times to this disabled young man, and all three times he could not sink a shot. So the other team gets the ball one last time – game over. Well, not quite! Listen to the response of the young man from the other team at the end.
Some things cannot be coached – they come from a heart of love, and one that understands Matthew 7:12 – “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets" (ESV).
