Jeri Rowe: The Redemption of Brian Banks
Brian Banks was charged with raping and kidnapping a friend, and he went to prison for 62 months and wore an electronic tracking device on his ankle for five years. It was for a crime he didn’t do.
His friend lied. The police believed her, and Brian lost his chance to play football at Southern Cal and possibly go pro. After 10 years, he was finally exonerated.
This is what he learned about the world: “We live in two different worlds – the spiritual world and the physical world – and perception is everything. What people hear in the media and see on TV they believe to be true. In an instant, you can go from a monster to an inspiration. But what I’ve learned is that you have to remain true to yourself. Brave men always speak the truth.”
